History
St. Mary’s Church was originally a sub-station of Maheshmunda Parish. Later, it became an independent parish at the end of 1988. Rev. Fr. Simon Murmu was the first resident parish priest and lived near the first church building. Earlier, Rev. Fr. Mathew A.C. had built the original church in 1984.
Afterwards, Rev. Fr. Stephen P.K. led the construction of a new church, which was blessed on 28 April 2005. Moreover, he established the parish school and convent to support education and community development. These institutions continue to serve many children and families in the area.
Today, St. Mary’s Church serves about 600 Catholics from nearly 70 families. In addition, the parish celebrates Holy Mass, offers catechism classes, and organizes spiritual and social programs throughout the year. Therefore, the church remains an important center of Catholic faith and service in the Giridih district.
