History

St. Stephen’s Church was originally a sub-station of Damruhat. It became an independent parish on 1 June 1988. Soon afterward, Fr. Stephen P.K. became the first resident parish priest and began serving the growing Catholic community.

Earlier, Fr. Peter Goveas built the church. Later, Fr. Stephen P.K. developed the parish further by constructing the parish residence and school. In addition, the Holy Cross Sisters established a large convent complex that continues to support education and pastoral ministry.

Today, the parish serves nearly 1,000 Catholics from around 200 families across 13 villages. Furthermore, St. Stephen’s Church remains an active center for worship, spiritual formation, and community service. The parish is located about 95 km from Bhagalpur.
