Brief History:
In the year 1978 a small Chapel was constructed on the Main Road in honour of St Joseph. In 1987 this was erected as a separate Parish. The present Church was constructed by the then Rector of Sacred Heart Seminary Rev Fr S J Anthonyswamy as the Catholic population rose to 1200. From this Parish Maduravoyal, Ramapuram, Madananda Puram, Nandambakkam and Valasaravakkam were bifurcated.

San Thome Church, officially known as the National Shrine of St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica, is a church of the Catholic Church in India, at the Santhome neighbourhood of Chennai, in Tamil Nadu. It is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, and a minor basilica dedicated to Saint Thomas the Apostle.
