It is known through tradition that the shrine of St. Francis Xavier has already been built here, where the congregation of Jesus set foot.
Every year on the last Sunday of July, the feast and therbhavani are held for Our Lady with St. Miraculous Mother as Patron and St. Francis Xavier as Sub-Patron.

History
In 1606 AD, Jesuit missionary Robert the Noble followed in the footsteps of St. Francis Xavier and started the new Mathura Mission Mission with Tiruchirappalli as its headquarters. The Roman Catholic Mission was the most prominent mission in the North Arcot district during the 18th centuries.
In AD 1676 Fr. Andrew Freire started a church in Vettavalam with about 60 Christians. He then went to Sengam and built a congregation there with about 1100 Christians.
