Brief History:

Saint Gnanapraksiyar Church, Villukkuri, was established in 1909 when residents worshipped at a wooden cross and Fr. Rafael’s efforts led to the founding of the Gnanapraksiyar shrine. Fishing communities contributed resources to expand the property over the years. When Madathatuvilai became an independent parish in 1918, Villukkuri remained as its branch. The cross-shaped church underwent expansion and was consecrated on October 25, 1957 by Bishop Anicetus. The parish now serves approximately 157 families as a branch of Saint Sebastian Church, Madathatuvilai.
