The original chapel was built in 1697, and the current magnificent structure measuring 240 feet long and 40 feet wide was built in 1747 in the Kiranoor Deanery of the Trichy Diocese. Easter celebrations have been continuously observed since 1691, featuring dramatic presentations and cultural performances. The shrine attracts thousands of pilgrims from various states annually and serves approximately 600 families including branch parishes. Branch churches include Holy Health Mother Church at Olayur, St. Anthony at Sathivayal, St. Anthony at Amboorpatti, and St. Francis of Assisi at Orandakudi. The major feast is celebrated on August 15, the Assumption of Mary.
