Feast Day

The annual feast of the church is celebrated every year around 8 September, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The celebrations usually continue for ten days with Holy Mass, special prayers, novenas, and cultural programs. In addition, the Mother’s Cross feast is observed during the final three days of May.

Under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Ralph Grant Madden, the parish has continued to grow through pastoral care and community development. Furthermore, during the Golden Jubilee celebrations (1972–2022), a Competitive Examinations Training Centre was established to support local students and young people.

History

Arogyapuram developed as a coastal Catholic settlement during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Families from nearby fishing villages gradually settled in the area in search of better opportunities. As the population increased, the local Catholic community worked together to establish places for education, prayer, and community life.

Initially, the faithful gathered in a simple thatched prayer hall for daily worship and religious celebrations. Although the village experienced serious fire accidents that damaged many homes, the community remained united. With support from neighbouring villages and the Government of Tamil Nadu, new houses were built and the settlement gradually recovered.

Over the years, the church expanded its pastoral and social activities. Today, Arogyapuram continues to serve the Catholic faithful through Holy Mass, sacraments, catechism, charitable works, and parish programs. The church remains an important centre of faith and hope for the local community.
