Brief History:
The congregation at Mathakondapalli was likely established around 1794. Fr. Abethude of the Paris Foreign Mission Society visited in 1799 while traveling to Mysore, finding Christians preserved during religious upheavals. The church remained under Mysore Diocese until 1930, when it transferred to Salem Diocese, then to Dharmapuri Diocese in 1997. The present church structure was constructed and sanctified in 1976. Notable institutions include Our Lady’s Primary and Higher Secondary School (established 1955) and Lourdes Hospital (opened 1970), both staffed by Franciscan Sisters of Mary since 1935. The church serves 350 families and the feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of June.
