One thought on “Immaculate Conception Church – Kuthalur”
One of the oldest churches in Tamilnadu (1860), sponsored by an unknown French Family and constructed by the French Missionaries. And it was one of the largest parishes in Madurai Arch Diocese with more than 150 sub parishes and it is shrinked to 12 Sub stations. The village has the gloriest past and moving towards pittiest future due to families migration to Cities like Coimbatore, Chennai & Madurai. The history of this church started in 1700 with a Kurusadi dedicated to St. Sebastian and had about 500 Catholic families. Most of the Family Heads earned money from Rangoon and Colombo, thus the village was called as “Chinna Colombo”.
Many Hardware (Paints & Steels) giants in Coimbatore are hailed from Kuthalur. Kuthalur has produced 7 Priests (3 Jesuits, 2 Diocesian Priests, 1SVD & 1 CMF) and more than 40 nuns.
