History

Around 300 years ago, Christian people from many parts of Andhra state came and settled in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu with the help of priests belonging to the Catholic Church. Erayur is one such settled village.
The Holy Anna Sabha was established as an expression of Tattipathi Gnanammal’s boundless love for the Lord. Erayur is proud of the fact that it was the village of Erayur that laid the foundation for the establishment of this church.
In 1890, the people living in Eraiyur area wanted to build a temple for the Lord in their area and built a temple and worshiped in it. This temple was situated on the south side of the temple which is now located in Eraiyur. After 1891, Eraiyur was added from Geezacherry division as a branch division of the nearby Palnellur division. At that time, the bishops who were the fathers of Panku developed a lot of piety among the Christian people and also laid a great spiritual foundation for the people of Panku.
As a result of his efforts, the present beautiful temple was completed and consecrated on March 31, 1965 by His Excellency Dr. Louis Mathias, Archbishop of Mailai, Chennai, and continued as a branch of the Palnellur branch.
With the pride of having worked for many years in Erayur Panku, he has done many good deeds for the people of Panku. Later, he did spiritual work tirelessly day and night in many roles and suffered from physical health problems due to hard work. So, he passed away on June 12, 2012 while staying at Santhom V
