Brief History:

The village has maintained Catholic Christian faith for approximately 160 years. When Palayamkottai Diocese separated from Madurai Archdiocese in 1973, Thalaarkulum became a branch of Singamparai Parish. Ancestors engaged in farming and palm industry initially worshipped in a palm-leaf thatched chapel dedicated to Saint Francis Xavier. Notable developments include: the 1982 school elevation to middle-level; acquisition of a 5-acre site; construction of the current church consecrated November 21, 2007; new school building inaugurated June 5, 2013; elevation to independent parish June 8, 2013; and priest’s residence completion August 28, 2016. The church serves 464 families. The feast is celebrated December 3rd with a 10-day festival starting November 24th.
