Brief History:
Holy Ignatius Church at Sathambatti is centuries old. French Jesuit Father Garnier established the church in 1843. The shrine gained prominence as devotion to St. Ignatius spread throughout the region. Initially functioning as a branch of Iluppoor Parish, the church was elevated to independent parish status in June 1991. The present structure was consecrated by Bishop Lawrence Gabriel on February 8, 1997. The parish serves approximately 600 families and 16 associations, with attached branch churches at Makuthupatti, Banipatti, and Udayampatti. The annual July 30-31 festival draws thousands of devotees from Tiruchirappalli, Pudukottai, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
