Brief History:

Christ the King Church, Kizhapanakulam, was established during the 1950s to serve the growing Catholic community in the village. Before the church was built, local Catholics regularly travelled to Saint Thomas Church, Thommaiyarpuram (Peykulum) for Mass and other religious services. As the community expanded, parishioners first erected a simple thatched chapel to the north of the present church site. During the pastoral leadership of Rev. Fr. Thanislaus Pandian, who served the Sathankulam Circuit between 1953 and 1959, construction of the permanent church began and was later completed and inaugurated by his successor. Today, the church functions as a branch of St. Xavier’s Church, C. Saveriarpuram, serving approximately 50 Catholic families. The annual feast of Christ the King is celebrated over ten days, beginning with the flag hoisting on the second Wednesday of May, while a community meal is traditionally shared after the First Friday Mass each month.
