St. Anthony’s Church
Thiruvazhuthainaadar Vilai
Thiruvazhuthainaadar Vilai, Eeral, Tuticorin District, Tamil Nadu.
Parish Priest – Rev. Fr. Johnson.
Church Established – 1928.

Brief History:

The parish originated when three Catholic families established a modest palm-leaf shrine dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua around 1923. Following a destructive fire that damaged the original structure and burned the saint’s statue’s hands, the community rebuilt with support from neighboring Hindu and other Christian communities. The charred hands of the statue led locals to affectionately rename it Charred-Hand St. Anthony. The current church was constructed and consecrated in 1928, and since 1977 it has functioned as a branch parish under the main St. Susaiappa Church in Eeral.
