Brief History:

This congregation began as a modest chapel during the British colonial period when engineer Poulan developed irrigation tanks in the region, giving the area its name. Catholic families, primarily from the Nadar community, settled here after purchasing land from the Reddy landowners starting in 1884. The formal church structure was built during Father Gnana Prakasam’s tenure (1946-1951), with the tower completed under Father Ignatius in 1960. The parish serves approximately 75 families and functions as a chapel under the World Redeemer Church, Nedukulam. The feast is celebrated over 13 days concluding on the Sunday before Ash Wednesday.
