History
The mission at Nipania began through the efforts of a Christian Santhal who worked in the Banka Block. Later, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kozhimala regularly visited the village from the Bhagalpur Minor Seminary to serve the growing Catholic community.
As the number of faithful increased, land was purchased for the mission. Afterwards, a primary school was built to serve local children. At first, Holy Mass was celebrated in one of the classrooms. Over time, the parish continued to develop under the guidance of several dedicated priests.
Today, St. Mary’s Church serves about 375 Catholics from nearly 70 families across 15 villages. Moreover, the parish celebrates Holy Mass, offers catechism classes, and supports various spiritual and community activities. Therefore, the church remains an important center of Catholic faith in the Banka district.
