Brief History:

Tilaiya was part of Maheshmunda till 1972 when Fr. Joseph Cheruvil started living there. The church built by him was blessed on 1979. The presbytery was also his construction. Baptismal Records show that Fr. Cheruvil’s term at Tilaiya was between 05-05-1974-82; Fr. Mathew Kuttickatt (1982-87); Fr. Clement Besra (1987-97); Fr. Paul Kundorpally (1997-2004); Fr. Mathew Athikalam (2004- ). Number of Catholics 700; families 115; villages 25. With the new road from Deoghar to Giridih avoiding Chakai reduces travel time by about two hours.
