History

St. Paul’s Church was first part of Maheshmunda Parish. However, it became a separate parish in 1972. Rev. Fr. Joseph Cheruvil was the first priest to live in Tilaiya. He also built the church and the parish house. Later, the church was blessed in 1979.

Since then, many priests have served the parish. They have helped the Catholic community grow in faith. Moreover, they have supported education and parish life. In addition, they have encouraged young people and families to take part in church activities.

Today, the parish celebrates Holy Mass every week. It also offers the sacraments and catechism classes. Furthermore, the church holds feast celebrations and special prayer services throughout the year. Therefore, many families gather here to worship and grow in faith.

The parish serves about 700 Catholics from 115 families in 25 villages. As a result, St. Paul’s Church is an important center of Catholic life in the area.
