Brief History:

It is said that some Palm-tappers with the support of one Azhagappa Mudaliar began to reside in this village and out of respect for him called this village as Azhagappapuram. Madurai Mission Historical Notes point out that these people should have become Catholics between 1700 and 1740 and pastoral ministry commenced by 1910. The church seems to have been built between 1850 and 1860. In 1908 itself Fr. Causanal established the Blessed Sacrament. This became an independent parish on the 1 st of July 1921and the new church was completed with the help of Frs. Pandian, Siluvai Antony and Maria Gnanam.
