Brief History:

The name of Kootapuli is not found in the records before the Society of Jesus was suppressed in 1773. When the Jesuits came back to serve in the missions, Kootapuli had been part of Idindakarai parish. It became a parish in 1906 with Fr. Louis La Sous, but in 1907 it was joined with the parish of Vadakangulam. Once again it became a parish and was taken care of by a diocesan priest Fr. Dharmanather. The foundation of its church is said to have been laid in 1857 and the church was built. It was renovated in 1957.
