Brief History:

Holy Immaculate Mother Church, Amalothpavapuram (Mangkrai), was founded in 1952 when Fr. M. Lazarus, then vicar of Mullanginavilai, visited the region and recognised the community’s educational and economic challenges. Collaborating with local teacher Selvamani, he gathered support from residents who acquired 67 cents of land and constructed a temporary worship shelter. A permanent church building was completed and consecrated by Bishop Anicetus on October 11, 1955. The community grew from three families to approximately 120 families, and the village was renamed Amalothpavapuram in honour of the Immaculate Mother. This is the first branch parish of St. Anthony’s Church, Mullanginavilai.
