Brief History:

The congregation was established when Belgian missionaries conducted evangelical work in the region around 1721. A small church was built in Vavurei in 1873 under the Kollam diocese, and the parish was elevated to independent status in 1931. Fr. Innocent, a pioneering missionary, reportedly survived a shipwreck and fundraised in Belgium to construct the current church structure. The wooden Carmel Mother statue was brought from Belgium and the church has three affiliated branches serving the surrounding communities.
