Brief History:

Originally established as a small chapel in 1751, this parish served the pearl diving community of Thoothukudi. When the pearl industry declined after India’s independence in 1947, the faithful relocated to the current Alankarattu settlement. The modern church structure was consecrated on July 18, 2019, making it the first parish church in the diocese built to contemporary standards. The church is dedicated to Our Lady of Ransom, the patroness of the Diocese of Thoothukudi.
