Brief History:

The Catholic community of Thuvarkulam traces its origins to two significant events that transformed the lives of a local family. In 1916, a Hindu family experienced the tragic loss of a mother during childbirth. Later, when false accusations were made against the family during a village dispute, the parish priest intervened on their behalf, preventing legal action and offering pastoral support. Deeply moved by these experiences, the family embraced Christianity and received baptism in 1919 at Somnathaperi. Soon afterward, a church dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes was established. Located about 8 km from both Sathankulam and Peykulam, the church continues to serve the faithful and celebrates its annual feast from February 2 to February 11.
