Brief History:

The origins of St. Xavier’s Church in Elayaneri are closely connected to the community’s deep devotion to St. Francis Xavier. During a plague outbreak in the 1920s, the villagers sought the saint’s intercession, strengthening their faith and inspiring the construction of a small mud chapel near the village lake in 1943. As the Catholic community grew, the chapel was rebuilt with a tiled roof during the 1960s. To accommodate the needs of the faithful, the church underwent a complete reconstruction and was solemnly consecrated on June 24, 2004. Since becoming part of the Nedukulam parish in 1984, St. Xavier’s Church has continued to serve approximately 17 Catholic families as a branch church. The annual feast is celebrated over ten days, beginning with flag hoisting on May 2 and concluding with the feast day on May 11.
