Brief History:

Holy Mother of Health Church, Pottalkulam, was established through the deep faith and devotion of a local Catholic family. According to parish tradition, Mrs. Shiryapushpam prayed earnestly before an image of Our Lady of Good Health (Velankanni Mother) while caring for her seriously ill husband, Mr. Arulamani. During this period, she experienced a dream in which the Blessed Virgin Mary revealed the location where a church should be built. Following her husband’s remarkable recovery, the family fulfilled this promise with the support of a military officer who generously sold land for just ₹2,000. Construction of the church began on May 31, 1975, and the completed church was solemnly consecrated on March 28, 1976. Today, the parish serves approximately 55 Catholic families. The annual feast is celebrated over ten days from August 16 to August 25, featuring a devotional procession of the Blessed Mother’s statue accompanied by prayers, hymns, and community celebrations.
