Brief History:

Saint Sebastian’s Church in Manjolai was established in 1905 when six family members from Anthony and Arokkyam’s household relocated from Nadupatti during a severe drought. They initially built a cottage and designated land for communal worship. The property belonged to Burn Standard and Co., whose employee George (son of Chinnapan) and local Christians petitioned the company, which donated the land for church purposes. On August 22, 2003, official title deeds were granted by the Salem Diocese. A proper church building was constructed in 2005 to commemorate the diocese’s 50th jubilee and was consecrated by Bishop C. Singarayyan on May 26, 2005. Recent improvements include a cement paved forecourt (2014), a steel flagpole, a Saint Sebastian chapel blessed on January 22, 2017, and a boundary wall. The church serves 12 families as a branch of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Suramangalam, and celebrates its feast on the last Sunday of January in honour of Saint Sebastian.
