Sacred Heart of Jesus Shrine

N. Panchampatti, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu.
Parish Priest – Rev. Fr. Richard Babumohn.
Church Established – 1836.

Brief History:

The parish originated when Christian families settled in the densely forested Panchampatti region. From 1725 to 1830, missionaries from Pondicherry visited four to five times yearly to nurture spiritual growth. The shrine was formally established in 1836 and later refounded in 1893 by Fr. Julius Larme. The present structure underwent gradual expansion through successive priests’ efforts, with significant renovations including the 1921 altar construction and 2019 sanctuary restoration by Bishop Thomas Balsamy. The parish has seen 20 priests ordained, serves 2,500 families, 45 religious sisters, and historically served 96 villages. The feast is celebrated in June over ten days centered on the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
