Brief History:
The shrine originated when Christian families migrated from Mayilrangam village to the Dindigul area during the 17th century due to flooding and social tensions. One brother, Michael Servai, established a settlement called Salethpuram with six sons. They initially built a small palm-leaf chapel dedicated to Our Lady of La Salette. In 1892, the parish priest acquired a statue of Our Lady of La Salette from abroad. After the statue worked miracles at Dindigul’s Saint Joseph Church, locals persistently requested its transfer. The shrine gained prominence through reported healings, particularly involving livestock. The church underwent major renovations in 1990 and 2005, with the latter adding gothic-style towers. Two statues from France now reside here. The shrine serves 150 families and the feast is celebrated in May (Vaikasi month, dates 7-9) over three days.
