Parish Priest – Rev. Fr. P. Anton.
Brief History:
The shrine originated during the 18th century when Major Charles Campbell established a military garrison in 1764. Catholic military personnel required spiritual care, leading the Major to construct a small chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony. After military disbandment in 1877, the Madurai Mission assumed custodianship. The structure reflects Portuguese Gothic architecture, later becoming a public worship center. Elevated to diocesan shrine status in 2010. The cemetery chapel holds remains of 32 missionaries (1851-1951). The shrine features fourteen Stations of the Cross, a 150-year-old Saint Anthony statue with relic, and an adoration chapel. The shrine attracts numerous devotees seeking healing miracles through Saint Anthony’s intercession.
