Brief History:

When the cement company was established in 1942, foreign engineers worked on-site and a foreigner was buried nearby. Subsequently, Mr. Samuel Nadar constructed a tiled chapel dedicated to St. Anthony around 1950. Bishop Leonard suggested constructing a proper church matching the cement company’s building height. Under Fr. George Joseph’s leadership (1960), construction commenced. The church was completed and dedicated to Saint Joseph (patron of workers) during Fr. Maria Michael’s tenure. The parish was elevated to independent status on May 22, 1983, separating from Pattai parish. The church serves 200 families and the feast is celebrated on May 1st (flag hoisting on April 22nd).
