History

St. Clare’s Church was originally a sub-station of Gokhla Parish. Later, Rev. Fr. Alex Bombera, TOR became the first resident priest and helped establish the Catholic mission in Dakaita. The present church building was blessed on 28 October 1977, while the parish residence was later constructed through the efforts of Rev. Fr. Jacob Kollamparampil.

Over the years, many dedicated priests faithfully served the parish and strengthened its pastoral, educational, and missionary work. Moreover, the church expanded its outreach by caring for several sub-stations, including Taljhari, Jhirli, Simra, and Mohanpur. Regular Holy Mass and pastoral visits continue to support the faithful living in these communities.

Today, St. Clare’s Church serves around 4,000 Catholics from approximately 525 families across nearly 100 villages. In addition, the parish conducts catechism classes, youth programs, charitable activities, and sacramental celebrations throughout the year. The parish has also inspired many priestly and religious vocations. Therefore, St. Clare’s Church remains a vibrant center of Catholic worship, education, and community service in the Godda district.
