History

Roman Catholic Church, Pakartalla was founded in 1986 by Rev. Fr. Joseph Thanni. At first, the school teachers formed the first Catholic community. Later, the parish grew through missionary work in nearby villages, including Shivnarayanpur and Ekchari.

In 1987, a multipurpose hall was built for community activities. Afterwards, it was also used as the parish church. Over the years, several priests have guided the parish and strengthened the faith of the local community.

Today, the parish serves about 195 Catholics from nearly 50 families across 10 villages. Moreover, Sunday Holy Mass is also celebrated at St. Joseph’s School, NTPC Kahalgaon. Many Catholic families and workers from different regions gather there for worship and fellowship.

Therefore, Roman Catholic Church, Pakartalla continues to play an important role in the spiritual life of Catholics in the region through prayer, education, and pastoral ministry.
