History

St. Anthony’s Church was originally a sub-station of Baromasia Parish. Later, Catholic missionaries began serving the people in nearby villages. As the Catholic community grew, a permanent church was planned for Phulbaria.

Rev. Fr. Anthony Xalxo TOR began the construction of the church. Later, Rev. Fr. Jacob Neempiaparampil TOR completed the work. At first, the building served as a school during the week. However, it became a place of worship every Sunday.

In November 1987, Rev. Fr. Gregory Kuttickal became the first resident parish priest. He helped build the parish school and the priests’ residence. Moreover, the CMC Sisters established a convent and a dispensary to support education and healthcare in the area.

Today, Rev. Fr. Mathew Kuttickatt serves as the parish priest. The parish includes about 1,338 Catholics from nearly 210 families across 40 villages. Therefore, St. Anthony’s Church continues to be an important center of faith, service, and community life.
