Brief History:
St. Francis Xavier Church at Pooklipalayam, formerly known as Poo Kuzhipalayam (flower pit village), has a congregation that flourished for approximately 125 years. During Tipu Sultan’s era in the 18th century, Christian communities fled religious violence in Mysore and settled in Tamil Nadu’s Kongu region, including Pooklipalayam. The parish includes branch churches: St. Anthony Church at Poomalur and St. Gnanaprakashiyar Church at Vettuvapalayam. A new church structure was consecrated on December 29, 2018, by Bishop Thomas Aquinas of Coimbatore, replacing the original mud-built edifice. The parish feast is celebrated on December 3rd, the feast day of St. Francis Xavier.
