Brief History:

St. Francis Xavier Church at Saveriyur Palayam has a community whose ancestors were baptized by St. Francis Xavier according to tradition. The settlement dates from 1650 under St. Xavier’s patronage, though the parish formally organized in 1890. The current church building was constructed in 1898 and expanded in 1963. The parish is one of the larger parishes in the Coimbatore Diocese, serving over 1,500 families. Throughout its history, the parish has produced 13 priests, 1 nun, and numerous sisters for missionary work. The feast of St. Francis Xavier is celebrated on December 3rd.
