Our Lady of Carmel Church

Nellimarthupatty, Kambainallur, Dharmapuri District, Tamil Nadu.
Parish Priest – Rev. Fr. S. Rajappa.

Brief History:

Kambainallur emerged as an ancient Christian village with residents documented since 1774. The original settlement relocated when local leadership offered alternative land, allowing construction of a new church using materials from the old structure. A Capuchin friar developed an initial modest chapel. The community experienced migration due to drought and economic challenges affecting weaving trades. Church activity resumed following missionary efforts in the mid-1800s. The contemporary church was constructed in honor of Mary and consecrated on October 29, 2001, by Bishop Joseph Anthony Irudayaraj. The parish was established as independent on October 15, 2009. Renovations and a new tower were completed and blessed on October 7, 2021 by Bishop Lawrence Pius Durairaj. The church serves 40 families and the feast is celebrated on July 16.
