Brief History:

Holy Decorated Mother Church, Kuzhivilai, was established when twelve local fishing families gathered for worship in a small thatched hut with a Nair community member donating 38 cents of land. Approximately 178 years ago two wooden statues of the Decorated Mother arrived by sea from France and were distributed to Kuzhivilai and Vallavilai. The structure evolved from a palm-leaf shelter to a clay building and finally to a tiled structure in 1895. The parish serves approximately 115 Catholic households.
