Brief History:

Holy Zion Saint Catherine Church, Kappiyarai, developed from a small prayer gathering during cholera and plague epidemics in the 19th century when the community built a wooden cross shrine dedicated to Kitheriammal for healing and spiritual solace. Initially a mission of Mullangina Parish, then Palliyadi Parish, it became an independent parish in 1988 under Fr. V. Mary Alphonse’s leadership. The original consecration took place on November 25, 1954, and the current church structure was completed and consecrated in 2008 through community effort. The parish now serves approximately 277 families.
