Brief History:

St. Anthony’s Church, Poottetti, originated in 1783 when a newly converted Christian named Anbudan erected a stone cross and donated 16 cents of land. The small shrine gradually developed into a chapel with Mass celebrated periodically. Poottetti became an independent parish on June 10, 1956, with Fr. Wenceslaus as its first parish priest, and the present church structure was consecrated in June 1960. The parish maintains two affiliated chapels and is one of the oldest Catholic communities in the Kanyakumari District.
