Brief History:

The Jesuit community from Shembagannur established spiritual services in this region, constructing an initial chapel in 1895 to serve approximately 250 Catholic Christians working in coffee plantations. As the Christian population increased, a new church was consecrated in 1937 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A unique characteristic of this church is that Hindu residents also regularly visit for prayers and to light candles for family welfare and business prosperity, making it serve as a family shrine for the broader community. The church serves 5 families as a branch of St. Anthony’s Church, Mangalam Kombu, Kodaikanal. Franciscan Sisters of St. Clare are present. The feast is celebrated on June 27 for 3 days.
