Brief History:
The shrine originated through apparitions to S. T. Velumurugan, a businessman from Thoothukudi who relocated to Sundarrajapuram. The Mother of God appeared to him three times, resulting in his family’s conversion to Catholicism in 1977, and he adopted the baptismal name Thomas. The site received blessed soil from Bethlehem in 1987. The foundation stone was laid in 1992 and construction began in 2000. The shrine was consecrated on June 23, 2002, and has since become a worship site for devotees of various faiths. The shrine is a branch of St. Anthony’s Church, R.C. Street, Pazhaikanatham, and celebrates its feast on September 8 and the following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Located approximately 1 km from Periyar Bus Stand on Tirupparankundram Road.
