Brief History:

The Holy Mother of Sorrows Shrine in Poomanur was established in 1997 when the Mother appeared in visions to local devotees Jaganathan and others. The initial small structure was constructed using community donations. A formal church building was completed in 2010, with additional developments continuing in subsequent years. The shrine hosts Saturday services with rosary, novena prayers, Mass, healing service, and anointing of the sick. The annual festival is celebrated on the first Saturday of February. Major feast days include January 1, February 2, March 25, August 15, September 8, and December 8. Located 13 km from Mettur toward Madheshwaran Hill via Kolathur, then 8 km toward Bhavani.
