Brief History:

St. Francis Xavier Church, Punalvasal, was initially a subsidiary of Pathirakudi Parish, then Kottaikkadu, and subsequently Pattukkottai before attaining independent parish status. The current church building was constructed through the efforts of the third parish priest, Fr. Arulaandu, with the generous support of local residents. The church grounds include five prayer chapels and fourteen Stations of the Cross, and the parish has produced nineteen priests and several religious sisters. The parish feast in honour of St. Francis Xavier is celebrated from November 24 to December 3.
