Brief History:

The church traces its origins to missionary work begun in the 1650s. In 1787, a small chapel was established in Tirunelveli town dedicated to Mary as Refuge. For many years it functioned as a private chapel under family stewardship due to sparse Christian population. In June 1981, the church and land were transferred free to the diocese after sustained efforts by multiple pastors. It was formally opened and registered as a parish church in 2005, now overseeing nine branch parishes including locations in Kandiyaperi, Lalukupuram, Karuppanthurai, and Abhishekappati. The church serves 375 families and the feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of September.
