Brief History:

St. Francis Xavier Church at Malayadipatti traces its origins to 1659-1660 when Fr. Antony Proenca established a Christian settlement in the area. The first wooden church, built in 1662, was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The current stone structure was constructed in 1885 by Fr. Benedict Bharti after 40 years of dedicated service. The church underwent major restoration in 2011 for its 125th anniversary, with completion and reconsecration in 2012 under Bishop Antony Devotta. The parish serves over 3,000 families including branch churches. The annual Easter festival is observed from the Thursday following Easter through the following Sunday, and the feast of St. Francis Xavier is also celebrated on December 3rd.
