Brief History:

The Holy Saint Xavier Church in Veppalodia is approximately 200 years old, established by 50 Catholic fishing community families who have celebrated the feast annually on December 3 in honor of St. Francis Xavier. The community experienced decline as fishing yields decreased, with 40 families relocating to Tuticorin, and currently only 6 Catholic households remain in the area. The church was renovated by John Motha, who arranged repairs and electrical installations. In 1989, a six-foot-high boundary wall was constructed during Rev. John Xavier’s tenure to preserve the church grounds.
