Brief History:

Located on the northern bank of the Thamirabarani River, this sanctuary was constructed in 1912 with donations from Maria Sindathirai Tommasia, a woman from Tuticorin. The structure was later expanded and beautified by Rev. Fr. Joseph Mascarenhas. The remote island location requires crossing multiple river tributaries to reach the site, accessible by boat or on foot when water levels are low from the village of Punnaikkayal, approximately 6 kilometers from Vattakottai. The feast is celebrated on the first Friday of July with the main celebration on the second Sunday in honor of St. Thomas the Apostle.
