Brief History:

In the Mission Notes of Madurai Mission Kootapanai is named as “Chinnathalai”. It was joined to Uvari when it became a parish in 1910. Foundation for the church at Kootapanai seems to have been laid in the same year. Work was completed for this church in the time of Fr. Antony Fernando of the Rosarian Society, the parish priest of Uvari. Bishop Roche consecrated this church and it became an independent parish in 1944.
