Brief History:

St. Antony’s Church, Sengulam, was established in 1940 when the local Catholic community built a small thatched chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua. As the congregation grew, Rev. Fr. Gnanaprakasam initiated the construction of a permanent stone church in 1947, which was subsequently consecrated by the Bishop of Tuticorin. In 1950, when Sindamani was elevated as an independent parish, Sengulam became one of its branch churches. Following further diocesan reorganization in 1999, the church came under the pastoral care of C. Saveriarpuram Parish. A major renovation was carried out in 2007 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Arokiadhas, during which a spacious front hall was added to the church. Besides serving parish activities, the hall is also used as a study centre for local students. Situated along the Peykulam–Munchipatty route, the church continues to serve the Catholic community, with the annual feast of Saint Anthony celebrated over thirteen days in early May.
