Brief History:

St. George Church, Puthiam Puthoor, was established to provide a place of worship for the small Catholic community living in this region. Before the church was built, the faithful had to travel to Vadakkankulam for Sunday Holy Mass and other spiritual services. Recognizing the difficulties faced by the parishioners, Rev. Fr. M. S. Anthony purchased land in 1974 and constructed a small church to serve the local community. As the congregation grew, plans were made for a larger and more permanent structure. The new church building was constructed in 2017 and was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Ivan Ambrose in the same year. Today, the church serves around 25 Catholic families as a branch parish. Located about 2 kilometres inland from the National Highway on the Kanyakumari route, St. George Church continues to be a centre of faith and devotion. The annual feast of Saint George is celebrated for ten days, beginning with flag hoisting on the last Friday of April.
